About the Music - A View of the Ocean
Welcome back!
According to the stats page on my Blogger, I have been getting some readers from Europe and the US! I'm glad to see that there are people out there reading what I have been providing. Feel free to comment on any post, and tell me what you like, what I should improve on, and what I should write about next. I'm going to finish writing about my music as I am enjoying the explanation of my music.
Background
"A View of the Ocean" is the fourth song from my debut self-released music project, PERADVENTURE, under the name The Mystery Figure. This song is pretty personal to me, as it was inspired by an event that happened to me while recording the album. The summer before I started my second (and final) year of college, I had reconnected with a friend from high school. Our history together had started off negatively at first; I had my prejudices about him, and he had his own opinions about me. We did not get along until the years went along, as we neared high school graduation. After I graduated from high school, I lost contact with most of the people I'd gone to school with - as it happens with everybody, really. When my friend contacted me, he asked to hang out. We went out, spent some time together, and I came to realize that he wasn't too different from myself. I had completely allowed my prejudices about him get in the way of actually getting to know him. It was because of that experience that I later composed a song about it.
Composition
The song came to be for a music class I was taking during my first semester of my second year of college. It started off as a homework assignment, and I decided to record a final version. This final version appears on PERADVENTURE. "A View of the Ocean" is a piano-based track, and it continues the theme of sadness within the first part of the album. The title comes from this dream that I have: that one day, I could perhaps own a home with an ocean view, and find myself feeling calm because the ocean waves would be nearby. Although I've never seen the ocean or even been to a beach before, I have heard recordings of ocean waves to go to sleep before. Water really calms me down, especially when I'm trying to go to sleep.
PERADVENTURE
Within the album, "A View of the Ocean" continues from "Memory is the Key"; the main character has realized that they have made a mistake of running away from their feelings. Instead of confronting their emotions, they chose to leave behind what they knew because they felt insecure about the relationship they were in. Now that they have chosen to go back, the main character is driving back home. On their way back, they find themselves traveling on a road they don't recognize. I usually imagine that this road is close to a coast, perhaps high up on a cliff somewhere. The main character sees something that distracts them while driving, causing them to swerve off the road, and crash into the ocean.
Artwork
Every song on PERADVENTURE has its own artwork. I did this because I love knowing what each song has for a cover. All of the images I used for each track is a picture I took on my old smartphone, an HTC One M8. They were all edited to be in black & white, but I also have a color version (which can probably be found online, whether on my Instagram or Tumblr - they also are available on my Spotify account for each track's playlist, but are currently hidden. I'll share them in the future).
